Palette cleanse paintings.
The Palette Cleanse Paintings commenced during my frustrations with my time spent cleaning off my glass paint palette. A swipe with my putty knife, covered in reconstituted dried paint, on a paper towel inspired me to take this time-and-material-consuming act and create lasting artwork. Using donated and discarded fine art paper, purchased at a local creative reuse center, I’ve been intrigued with how this process reacts to varying paper textures and surfaces.
In contrast to the unpredictability of the colors and textures (being that they are a result of the remnants on my paint palette) of The Palette Cleanse Paintings, I finish each piece with deliberate mark making from a variety of 2D media, such as pen, marker, graphite, ink, crayon, colored pencil, and charcoal.
I have been increasingly aware of my own impact on the environment, especially in my studio, after starting this sustainable abstract series. My intention with this series is to ignite and create conversations around recycling, reusing and creating less waste. Creating with minimal waste is just one small step I’m taking in reducing my carbon footprint.
